Your journal can become an altar.

Journal As Altar is a freedom project, not an assignment that you pass or fail.

When our journals are altars, our pages become prayers.

With intention and practice, your journal can be an altar to healing, well-being, and building the world you want to see.

We keep altars for many reasons: for cultural, religious, and/or spiritual expression, to honor ancestors/spirits/nature, to make our prayers and hopes visible and tangible, to welcome what we need and desire, to protect our homes, to transition beloved people and pets. We keep journals for many reasons, too. For me, setting up an altar and setting up a journal are both rituals that ground me, open me, and bring intention to my life when I need it most. Altars are healing portals, and so are journals. Your journal can become an altar.

I believe we all play a role in growing the just, equitable, loving world that will bring all of us to collective liberation. A world where everyone gets to thrive and diversity is recognized as a gift. We will get there through interdependence, accountability, imagination, activism, resource sharing, transformative justice, care, connection, and pleasure. My journals are both portal and vessel, altars to what is possible. My journals document my commitment to the collective, my commitment to myself and my loves, and act as accountability reminders. My journals hold pain, joy, healing, reflection. Yours do, too.
